June 6 - Lower Albion Meadows Trail (Little Cottonwood Canyon)

Sunny day with high near 90 degrees.

Heading up, with my nephew, Little Cottonwood Canyon to hike the Lower Albion Meadows trail at the top of the canyon. It's about 1.5 miles with ~800 ft of elevation. And I'm expecting snow so we're prepared with YakTraks.

We arrive around 8am. There's still a bunch of snow in the mountains but there are large clear patches as well.

I know the bottom of the trail will be very snowy (very shady) so its a walk up the summer road to the first corner to a side trail that leads us to the main trail. A little snow, mud and water and we're on the main trail and climbing towards Devils Castle.

Lots of little green plants emerging. And the Spring Beautify are blooming.

And a couple of ground squirrels.

We reach the bottom of the Sugarloaf lift and we're blocked with snow. I'm game to continue but there's too much so so we backtrack up to the Catherines Pass parking lot for a break.

Then it's down towards the Albion Basin campground and we see Buttercups along the way.

Then back to the parking lot and down the Summer Road. Along the way we see more ground squirrels and a coyote crossing the road.

Good day1
