June 10 - Lambs Canyon
Mostly sunny day, super windy and highs in the valley of 68 degrees. Fantastic days considering how hot it's been recently.
Heading up to hike Lambs Canyon trail for the 1st time this year. And I'm excited to see what butterflies are flying.
I arrive just after 3pm. There's only one car in the lot and they are leaving. (Yea!)
I check the muddy area near the parking and not one butterfly. :(
Then it's up the trail.
Boy! It's already looking dry and in some spots, the plants look stressed already. Not good.
The only butterfly I can identify is the Mustard White. I see 4-6 of them.
I also see 2 Duskywings and a couple of Swallowtails that I can't identify. Not good.
But the flowers are doing OK.
I find Virgins Bowers, Solomon's Seal
Strawberries, Cherry Treesa few Geraniums (not many), Doll's Eyes (mid-top)
a few White Columbinea Cinquefoil and a few Spring Beauties and lots of White Violet on the last switchback.
Lots of downed tree obstacles - I think I had to climb over 6-7 logs and under 1. Hopefully, the trail crew gets out the soon to remove them.
Nice hike. Nice view at the top.
And I got to the top in 1 hour and 5 minutes. Not bad for the 1st trip!
Good day!
