April 30 - Timpanogos Trail (Aspen Grove)
Part 2 of adventure is the short ~1mile (554ft) hike up the Aspen Grove Trail to the 1st waterfall (aka, Timpanogos Falls). And the start is 30 ft on the other side of my car.
The trail heads thru the woods initially and there's still some snow to deal with. It's no big deal because it's the ground is flat and I can skirt along on some open patches on the side.
Then there's a footbridge over would should be water but there is no water. Again, I'm too early I would think.
But after crossing, I spot a Sheridan's Hairstreak! Love these guys but I can't catch up. :(
I also see a Mourning Cloak, Satyr Comma and a little bright blue Spring Azure!!
After that point, no more butterflies.
This trail has more Spring flowers emerging from the ground - looks like Bluebells and Columbine to me.There's also this huge avalanche chute and I believe has been recently used.
Ahead I see what I think is my waterfall. But it soon disappears. Hmmm! I'm puzzled.Farther along, I hear and see an avalanche ahead of me! Way cool!
I know what my "disappearing" waterfall was -- an avalanche.
Finally, I see my waterfall in the distance and I keep plugging along until I get there.
I drop down for a closer look. Unfortunately, the mountains are very small in this view.
Time to head back.
Hearing lots of avalanche noises. And I'm definitely walking thru avalanche territory but thankfully the snow has already melted.
The area with the large slide has 2 areas that are almost a constant slide of varying strengths. I count 3 tiers on snow-falls when the flow is slower. Totally incredible! I can't stop watching!Awesome day! Lots things seen and heard. And best of all for me was having a "passing" stranger to share the experience!
